Rule#1: Work Deeply
Rule #2: Embrace Boredem
Rule #3: Quit Social Media
Rule #4: Drain the Shallows
Not sure to what extent I can stick with these rules, but the three tips regarding how (not) to respond to vague / ambiguous / unimportant emails are insightful:
Tip #1: Make people who send you email do more work. Set up sender filter that only entertains emails that fulfill certain conditions. This can reduce the number of emails received.
Tip #2: Do more work when you send or reply to emails. Use a process-centric approach when replying email by outlining proposed next steps that can be added to task lists and calendar. This can reduce the number of back-and-forth messages.
Tip #3: Don’t respond. If the email is ambiguous / doesn’t interest you / hard to make a reasonable response, and nothing really bad would happen if you didn’t respond, then don’t respond.
